Trafford LDC has been in existence for many years, I took up the post of Chair over two years ago and my first mission was to increase participation from dentists within the Trafford area. Pre-Covid, we were having a clinical presentation with CPD at every meeting and all our meetings are very informal with as much participation from dentists as possible. Currently all meeting are held virtually via zoom, but everyone is looking forward to when we finally meet up again face to face.
The LDC arranges subsidised hands on training days for Trafford dentists only, this creates an informal day where we can guide what we want to be taught. We supported all practices within Trafford, to train 2 fit testers in each practice for when we opened after lockdown, this helped us to start doing AGPs a lot sooner.
We have a Trafford LDC whatsapp group with over 50 dentists, which includes a range of local specialists. It is a friendly forum where we can discuss clinical cases as well share any updates from the LAT to distributing CVs for dentists/DCPs who are looking for work in the area.
We have a broad range of experience and clinical skills within Trafford LDC, we all do our best to help and support each other, this was really apparent through the recent covid pandemic.

“I am a GDP/practice owner for over 20 years and I bought my practice in Timperley, Altrincham over 10 years ago. I started attending LDC meetings as a way to meet local dentists in the area, as I was one of the regular attendees I was nominated to become the Chairman. I believe that communication is key and that’s why I am trying to create an LDC where we are here to help and support each other. You can become isolated very easily working in General Practice, therefore, I am trying to use the LDC to create a platform where dentists can network together and discuss concerns as well as getting all the latest information/releases from the CDO and NHS.”

I have found that attending LDC meetings has been very helpful in meeting local colleagues and gaining advice and support, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. We aim to keep all local dentists updated with current news and information and to signpost them to any help they need.
